The art of taxidermy is a blend of sculpture, tanning, and painting. Since ancient times, hunters would retain portions of their kill as trophies, to alert others to their prowess and to remind their families of times of plenty. As the skill evolved, the wealthy used taxidermy as a way to hold on to their beloved pets – sometimes even for religious purposes.
